Angela’s journey in education began in Pennsylvania at Kutztown University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education. It was during her student teaching experience that Angela’s love for travel and diversity truly blossomed. She had the opportunity to teach ESL students in East London, an experience that profoundly shaped her perspective on education and cultural diversity. Driven by this newfound passion and a desire to broaden her horizons further, she embarked on a cross-country journey to California after graduation. In Seaside, CA, Angela found her footing as a 5th-grade teacher, a role that allowed her to directly influence young minds while simultaneously pursuing her own academic growth.
During her time in Seaside, Angela completed her Master’s degree in Multicultural Instruction and Design. She focused on teaching unheard voices and perspectives in history; which significantly shaped her educational philosophy and approach to teaching. It instilled in her a deep commitment to ensuring that diverse narratives and experiences are represented in the classroom.
In 2005, Angela relocated to Humboldt County, a move that would define the next chapter of her career and personal life. Here, she joined the team at Fuente Nueva Charter School, beginning a 20-year tenure that would see her play a pivotal role in shaping the school’s culture and community. Throughout these two decades, Angela balanced her professional commitments with raising her son alongside her husband, demonstrating her ability to nurture growth both at home and in the classroom.
Angela’s time at Fuente Nueva was characterized by her active involvement in building not just the school itself, but also its unique culture and strong community ties. She created and implemented school wide programs such as reader’s theater and literature circles. Her dedication to education extended beyond the classroom, leading her to pursue an Administrator’s Certificate from Humboldt State University (HSU) and a Science of Reading Certificate. These additional qualifications further enhanced her ability to contribute to the school’s development and student success.
Recently, Angela stepped into the role of Director at Fuente Nueva Charter School, bringing her experience and passion for education to this leadership position. In this capacity, she aims to continue nurturing the school’s growth and development, with a particular focus on promoting culturally sensitive education practices and fostering the development of globally-minded citizens.
