Board Meeting             Student board meeting this week! The School Board will meet with students on Thursday March 1st in the library. They want to hear your thoughts about our school.

 

Healthy Kids Survey      Permission slips will be going out this week for students in 9th and 11th grades to participate in the California Healthy Kids Survey. This anonymous, voluntary, survey is used to put programs in place and monitor their effectiveness. The survey will be done during one class period in the computer lab.

 

Seal of Biliteracy              Attention all juniors and seniors. If you have not yet confirmed with Colleen that you will be attempting to earn your Seal of Biliteracy this year see her immediately. The Oral Language Fair will be held at HSU on March 24th, make sure to mark your calendars. If you would like more information on what the Seal of Biliteracy is please see Colleen or Margaret.

 

Free Tickets        Jane Doe in Wonderland is a theatrical production that educates and shares the experience for those in the sex trafficking industry. It is based on real life experiences in Humboldt County and throughout the world. The production is best suited for those 14 and older. The performance is April 8th in Scotia, and April 12th at Fortuna High SchoolFor free tickets for you and your family please contact the Family Resource Center at 923-1147.

 

Nick’s Interns    As a paid intern, you will take part in a range of restoration and land management projects such as native grass seed collection, invasive species removal, trail construction, campground maintenance, steelhead dive surveys, salmon habitat enhancement and much more! Apply now! Applications are due by March 23.

 

Track    Dust off your spikes, it’s time to get running. Practice is slated to begin on Monday, February 26th. It is the Monday after break. So take the opportunity over your week off to start working out and preparing for an epic track season.

Splinter deadline: The deadline to get something into the Monday splinter will be Friday morning 10 am. For the Wednesday splinter the deadline will be Tuesday at 10 am. Please email contributions to marieetherton@sohumusd.com. 

 

Concussion Testing      All athletes participating in spring sports must have had a concussion test. If you have not participated in fall or winter sports you must attend concussion testing

 

Seniors               Community Service is due by March 19th if you want to attend prom. Please make sure that you have your forms turned in to Frankie by then.

TRiO     Talent Search meetings will be this Wednesday (2/14) for TRiO students 9th through 12th during 3rd, 4th and 5th and 6th period (depending on your class schedule).  Seniors, Michelle will be available in A1 during 6th period to help you keep working on Humboldt Area Foundation scholarship applications and reviewing the timeline of deadlines for your school of choice in the Fall.   For those who are unfamiliar with TRiO Talent Search, it is a FREE College-Prep program that looks forward to providing you with all of the knowledge and resources you need to get through/pass high school and prepare yourself for College, Trade School, or the job of your choice, including help and information about financial aid and scholarships.   TRiO Works!  Start the year off right!!  Now is the time to start planning for college and your future!   One-on-one appointments are also available at other times, depending on your class schedule; fill out request in office or see Michelle in A1 or C5.

Just a reminder that starting today, the splinter will only be coming out 2 times per week, Mondays and Wednesdays. The deadline to get something into the Monday splinter will be Friday morning 10 am. For the Wednesday splinter the deadline will be Tuesday at 10 am. The preferred method to get items into the splinter will be to email it to marieetherton@sohumusd.com.  It will no longer be printed out for all the teachers. It will come out to you all via email. Teachers should still be reading it to their first period classes. They may choose to print and post it in their classes and we will have it posted in the office as well.
